Saying The Right Thing: True Thanksgiving

In one of the Peanuts comic strips, Lucy’s feeling sorry for herself and she laments, “My life is a drag. I’m completely fed up. I’ve never felt so low in my life.”

Her little brother Linus tries to console her and he says, “Lucy, when you’re in a mood like this, you should try to think of things you have to be thankful for; in other words, count your blessings.”

To that, Lucy says, “Ha! That’s a good one! I could count my blessings on one finger! I’ve never had anything and I never will have anything. I don’t get half the breaks that other people do. Nothing ever goes right for me! And you talk about counting blessings! You talk about being thankful! What do I have to be thankful for?”

Linus says, “Well, for one thing, you have a little brother who loves you.”

With that, Lucy runs and hugs little brother Linus as she cries tears of joy, and while she’s hugging him tightly, Linus says, “Every now and then, I say the right thing.”

Right now I’m going to say the right thing to you: We have a God who loves us. If that doesn’t make us sing the song of thanksgiving, I don’t know what would.

When things don’t seem to going well or when we don’t feel good about ourselves. How great it is to know that we have a God and a Church that loves us.

Thank you Lord for blessing us with McCormick Methodist Church.

See you in Church or online this Sunday! Happy Thanksgiving!

Your Pastor,
Nels

Acts of Kindness

Kindness Update – Take The Attitude of Gratitude Challenge!

Thanksgiving is the perfect time to take this Southern Plate Attitude of Gratitude Challenge! It would be fun to hear back from you with the number of these you accomplished during Thanksgiving week (18 would be a perfect score)! Make a copy of the challenge and place it where you see it regularly and exercise your “Attitude of Gratitude”! Use the link at the bottom of this Kindness Update to report your score – no names, as usual! Happy Thanksgiving, and thanks to Lindy Stahlman for sharing this!

Have you seen God today? If you see God at work this week, there are two ways you can share what you saw!

1) Be a blessing to others by sharing your Act of Kindness (no names please) on our website, or use this link! Then check back each week to learn how others are passing on acts of kindness! The link is https://www.mccormickmc.org/acts-of-kindness

2) There is a Kindness box in the library on the window sill, along with paper and pencil. Share your God-Wink, perhaps someone else will be inspired!

Josiah and Jessica did some early Christmas shopping to fill their shoeboxes with gifts for children in the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child project.

National Collection Week for the boxes was November 13-20, so their gifts have been delivered to one of the collection sites. They chose this Amazing Journey of a Shoebox Gift that began with them and results in Evangelism, Discipleship, and Multiplication as the gifts are collected and delivered.

From children to seniors, people pack shoebox gifts each year to bless children in need around the world. Josiah and Jessica will be able to track their gifts to see where they go and who gets them . . . that will be interesting information that hopefully they might share with us!

RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES

Don’t throw away those pop tabs! Bag them and bring them to the church. Jessica Kidd has set up a white bucket and will take the collected tabs to McDonalds for us! Thank you, Jessica!

MEN N MINISTRY
REPORT ON NOVEMBER 7 MEETING
NEXT MEETING IS JANUARY 9

The Methodist men held their last meeting of the year on Tuesday, November 7.  Our next meeting date is January 9,2024

On November 7, we had a great time in Christian fellowship. The dinner meal of chicken chili by Larry Ream and a great salad by Gordon Waine was delightful. We had an interesting speaker. Jim Hughes from FCA shared his testimonial about his God loving health witness. Bob Rennie did the devotional.

During the business discussions, we voted to donate monies to the following groups.
  • $300 to Elder basket Native Americans (Lola Rek)
  • $300 to Fellowship Hour Goodies (Carol Myers)
  • $250 to St. Andrews Feed the Hungry Program with left over non harvested crops
We have cooks, speaker and devotion volunteers to start 2024. The only disappointment to report about the November meeting was the attendance.. Let’s pray it will improve next year.

SECRET SISTER CHRISTMAS PARTY
DECEMBER 12 5:30

Ladies of McCormick Methodist Church, mark your calendars for a delightful evening of revelation and celebration! On December 12th at 5:30, we’ll gather for our long-awaited Secret Sister Christmas Party.

This heartwarming event is the grand reveal, where each participant will finally discover who their Secret Sister has been all year. Since last December, each one of us selected a random name and anonymously shared surprises, thoughtful birthday gifts, and tokens of love for various special occasions.

This initiative, the first of its kind at McCormick Methodist Church, has been a beautiful journey. It’s our hope to make this an annual tradition, creating lasting bonds and spreading joy within our community.

The evening promises to be filled with joy and fellowship as we enjoy a delightful dinner and scrumptious desserts. It’s an opportunity to share in the Christmas spirit, as we unite to reveal our Secret Sisters and present them with a special Christmas gift.

Let’s come together to celebrate the spirit of giving and sisterhood on this special evening. If you are a Secret Sister please RSVP by signing up in Fellowship Hall.
Barb Jeffers and Kim Jackson.
