WORSHIP WITH US – SUNDAYS AT 10AM

from Rev. C. Nels Ledwell
The God that Made Mothers
There are many things besides words that teach us about the true nature of a person. An artist or musician certainly instills some personality in their work. If a carpenter’s work is sloppy, it could mean an uncaring attitude or be indicative of someone that is worried or distracted. Even in writing, a writer can invoke a tone or mood by the use of his or her words. With this in mind, God made mothers. What does this say about God? To me it shows God has the traits of a good mom. Loving, caring, sacrificial, nurturing, teaching, providing….all those great things that mother’s do for us.
This week let us give thanks for the way God designed humanity with mothers to shape our lives. So in honor of Mother’s Day, if you still have your mother, give her the love she deserves. If not, be thankful for the memories of her that lives on forever.
Below is another way to honor our mothers. This Mother’s Day take a moment to think of all the mothers in the world who are in need. There are millions of women in the world living on less than a dollar a day. There are women in this country who are wondering how they are going to feed or diaper their children from day to day. There are children who need medical attention that their parents may not be able to afford. Anyone who has ever had to worry about such things can deeply sympathize. For those of us who have escaped such worries, we can only imagine the level of instinctive stress that uncertainty can provoke.
There are many ways to celebrate Mother’s Day, but here are a few unconventional suggestions that will prove to your own mother that she did a good job raising you. How about dropping off a box of diapers and/or a case of formula to a local food bank or women’s shelter? If you have some baby furniture or clothing that your own children have outgrown, how about donating that stuff to a local charity? Does our local hospital have a fund for children who need care? Are there doctors in our community or city who volunteer in clinics overseas who might need supplies? There are countless ways to help support Moms locally and globally.
Let your own Mom know that you were thinking about her and all of the many things she provided for you along the way…and that you did a good deed in honor of her. It will make her proud.
See you in Church this Sunday where we will worship God and celebrate Mother’s Day.
Your Pastor,
Nels

EPWORTH CHILDREN’S HOME
MOTHER’S DAY OFFERING

SUNDAY, MAY 11, WE CELEBRATE OUR MOTHERS AND EPWORTH!
Most of the children served by Epworth will not be celebrating Mother’s Day with their birth mothers this year. Instead, they will be surrounded by loving staff or foster parents who walk with them daily to provide spiritual, educational, emotional, and physical support.
The Mother’s Day offering is our opportunity to partner with Epworth to improve the lives of the children and families they serve. For more information about Epworth, visit online at www.epworthsc.org. Please be in prayerful consideration of what God is calling you to give to help Epworth make a difference in the lives of children and families every day. For more information about Epworth, visit online at www.epworthsc.org.
If using a check please make it payable to MMC and write Epworth on the subject line.
There will be envelopes provided in the bulletin on May 11.
You may donate at any time. Place your check in the offering plate, bring to the office or mail to MMC, P.O. 267, McCormick SC 29835.
