WORSHIP WITH US – SUNDAYS AT 10AM

from Rev. C. Nels Ledwell
Making God Proud
A school bus was making its final round of the day. A young boy jumped off just as a man jogged by. “Hey, mister,” the boy shouted, “can I jog with you?” The
jogger wasn’t in a hurry so he nodded and the boy joined in jogging. Within five minutes the boy gave the jogger pretty much his whole life story. His name was
Matthew, he was ten years old, precocious and full of life. Abruptly, however, Matthew stopped. “Look at this,” he ordered as he showed the jogger an 81/2 by 11 inch piece of paper that had been laminated. In big black letters across the top it said, “Fourth Grade Math Whiz”. Underneath was Matthew’s name, the school name,
the date and the teacher’s signature. His pride was undaunted. “I’m a math whiz,” he went on beaming, not waiting for the jogger to come to that conclusion by
reading the card only inches from his face. “Last year my sister was the math whiz,” he continued, “but this year, I’m the math whiz!” “That’s great,” the man replied. “Yep,” said Matthew, “but you know what’s really great? When I get home, my Dad’s gonna be real proud.” And isn’t that what we all really want? We want to make our fathers proud
and our mothers proud. We want to earn the esteem of family members and business colleagues and friends at church. And that’s fine. But more important than all of
these, says Jesus, is to make God proud of us. We do that when we look around to see those who are helpless, hurting, the destitute and do something for those who can
do nothing for us in return. It’s all right to want to be one of the beautiful people, says Jesus, as long as you understand who the beautiful people really are. They are
not those who are always buying more trinkets than their neighbors. They are those who are using the blessings of life to bless others. May we show McCormick and our neighbors how beautiful God’s people can be!
See you in Church or online this Sunday.
Your Pastor,
Nels

CREIGHTON SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
The Creighton Scholarship was established in memory of Elmer R. and Alma G. Creighton by their son, W. P. Creighton. It provides financial assistance for higher education needs of qualified high school students entering college. This year we have three recipients:
Brooks Garner, grandson of Robert and Marsha Garner, has enrolled at the University of Georgia with BBA Management as his intended major.
Tikvah Karnes, great niece of former members Earl and Karen Wright, has enrolled at the School of Missionary Aviation Technology. Her goal is to follow in her father’s footsteps and fly missionary flights delivering needed supplies to Haiti, Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas.
Caroline Thomas, granddaughter of Patsy Wilson has enrolled at Clemson University and plans to major in Occupational Therapy and work with children.
Since the recipients have already started their fall semester they will not be able to be with us in person. We have extended an invitation to all three to visit us at any time so we can meet them.
We wish all three recipients success in their endeavors and in their careers.

STEPHEN MINISTRY
READY TO LISTEN

If you are experiencing any type of difficulty and you need someone to listen to you, with whom you can share your feelings and receive acceptance and Christian love, please consider being in a relationship with a Stephen Minister at MMC.
Start by calling Pastor Nels or one of the Stephen Leaders and begin a ‘fellowship’ with a Stephen Minister. We may be reached through the church office at (864) 852-2394.

The Congregational Care Committee wants you to know they are there to help you if you ever need transportation, meals or a visitor! Please contact Kim Jackson if you or someone you know needs help or if you would like to be added to the list of volunteers.
Volunteers Needed for Congregational Care Team
Dear Church Family,
One of the most powerful ways we reflect the love of Christ is by caring for one another in times of need. Whether someone is recovering from surgery, facing a difficult season, or navigating a time of grief, small
acts of kindness—like a hot meal, a ride to an appointment, or a friendly visit—can make a world of difference.
acts of kindness—like a hot meal, a ride to an appointment, or a friendly visit—can make a world of difference.
We are currently building a list of volunteers who are willing to step in when needs arise. You don’t need to commit to every request—just let us know how you feel called to help:
Meal Ministry – Provide or deliver a home-cooked or store-bought meal to someone in need.
Transportation Help – Offer rides to church, appointments, or errands for those unable to drive.
Visitation Ministry – Visit homebound members or those in the hospital or care facilities to provide companionship and encouragement.
If you’re willing to be on our list of helpers in any of these areas, please send Kim Jackson an email or add
your name/email to the sign-up sheet in Fellowship Hall.

You’ll be contacted as needs arise, with the opportunity to accept or decline depending on your schedule.
Let’s continue being the hands and feet of Jesus—loving one another well in both big and small ways.
In Christ’s love,
Your Congregational Care Team
Methodist Men
The Methodist men will begin our fall meeting schedule on Tuesday September 9, 2025 at 6 pm. As always we have many opportunities ahead.
The first will be planning for the Church Fall Bazaar on Saturday October 4th. We have planned a nice dinner with John Yerdon doing the planning and prep. I have been able to enlist the services of Endie White with the 911 service of McCormick County as our guest speaker. She is exciting and well prepared. Ron Hutto will be doing the devotion. Our meeting will be the last before Pastor Nels Ledwell retires. His retirement will challenge us to stand tall.
Let’s start the fall off with a good turn out and send off for pastor who has provided great leadership for our men.

We will have an opportunity to invest in the lives of children, and I ask you to join me by supporting the Annual Work Day Offering. Our contributions help Epworth to provide the services necessary to improve the lives of the children and also the families they serve across the state. We can be proud of our support for Epworth. In recent years, it has expanded to support the increasingly high numbers of children, youth and families who need their services. Epworth needs our support to continue to do this work. So next Sunday, please prayerfully consider the children and families whose lives are impacted daily because of Epworth. Donate Online

PLANT SALE

Sue Wurtzbacher and Marge Radosevich will be asking for plants to sell in the Atrium. Watch for more details!
If you are planning on repotting, separating plants, or rooting new plants, and would like to share your bounty, please consider sharing your plants by donating to the MMW Craft Show Plant Sale.
Marge and I will set up several tables (depending on how many plants we get) in the Atrium.
Also if you have extra pots you no longer need (no plastic) or garden accents we would love to accept them also.
We usually have the plants dropped off at the church Friday (Oct 3). If for some reason you need to bring them sooner, we can work something out.
